The concertmaster of the Haydn Orchestra, Wolfgang Redik is
not only a good concertmaster, but also a wonderful chamber music player. The Vienna Piano
Trio, where he plays with the cellist Marcus Trefny and pianist Stefen Mendl, was chosen
by Isaac Stern as one of the best chamber ensembles and studied intensively. Since 1989
the Trio has won numerous prizes at international competitions. Like the Haydn Orchestra,
the trio is under contract to Nimbus and has released some very successful CDs including
Haydn and Dvorák's piano trios.
He was born in 1968 and was just 19 years old when he played at the first concert as
the principal second violin. The Assistant Principal was the co-founder of orchestra, Dr.
H·ner. Since he could not play louder, Wolfgang was asked to play louder. Ever since that
concert, Wolfgang sits in the first row of the orchestra.
