The Hungarian State Opera 125Th Season

The Hungarian State Opera was opened on September 27, 1884. Since then the opera house has been the centre of the Hungarian music theatre. Cerebrating the 125th anniversary season, the opera house planned the series of special events.

On 26th September, the opera house planned a jubilee Gala performance. Many top Hungarian singers gave selections from works by Bizet, Verdi, Mozart, Puccini and the Hungarian opera composer Erkel.

The Next day the opera performed the same program as 125 years ageo. After the first act of “Bánk bán” and the overture of “Hunydai László”, Adam Fischer conducted the first act of “Lohengrin”.

This year the Hungarian Opera House plans 8 premiers including Bartók’s “Bluebeard’s castle” and Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” conducted by Adam Fischer.

Editorial Note - The last words

A The Adam Fischer & Haydn Orchestra Fan Club was founded in 1993 and the first newsletter was issued in December of that year. Since then Barátom has appeared quarterly until this issue.

When the fan club is started, Adam Fischer was in his early forties. He was well known in some areas but not like today. There were not many articles about Adam Fischer or the Haydn Orchestra. Now he is sixty years old and one of the best opera conductors in the world. When he conducted at Salzburg, there was a flood of information in the newspapers and magazines. Information from the fan club is no longer so important any more.

On the other hand, Adam Fischer is very busy and it is getting very difficult for us to get enough information to publish the news letter. I have therefore decided to stop publishing. It is very sad but at least the original objective is accomplished. Thank you very much for your support in the past sixteen years. The internet site will remain for communication between fans.
